Junior Malena Gangi of C. M. Russell High School in Great Falls has been selected to represent Montana at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference June 22-27 in Washington, D.C. Gangi is one of 51 high school journalists — one from each state and the District of Columbia — chosen to attend the all-expenses-paid conference, which includes sessions and classes with top reporters and storytellers, field trips to newsrooms and studios, and visits to many sites in the U.S. Capitol.
The conference is named after Al Neuharth, the founder of the Freedom Forum and USA Today. Gangi was recently named the Outstanding Junior for the Journalism department. She earned first place in News Photography and Sports Event Writing and third place in Feature Photography at the recent UM High School Journalism Day at the University of Montana.
