The JEA Spring Convention is in San Francisco this April so now is the tie to be thinking about attending with or without students. Hotels always fill up really quickly, as do flights. National conventions are educational — and really a fun bonding experience for teachers and students.

SCHEDULE CHANGES IN SAN FRANCISCO:

Award ceremonies to consolidate

JEA and NSPA will combine Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning award shows into one Saturday afternoon ceremony resulting in no Sunday programming. The ceremony will start at 3:30 and end at 6 p.m. and include NSPA awards, Write-off awards and JOY winners.

Earlier start for opening ceremony

Thursday’s opening ceremony will start at 7 p.m. in San Francisco and include announcements of Pacemaker finalists and Journalist of the Year finalists. The previous JOY winner will address the group before the keynote speaker and after the finalists are announced.

For planning purposes, please refer to this schedule

Convention programming will also include some extended sessions, but you will register for those AFTER the early-bird registration deadline in March. You will not need to worry about this when you register for the convention itself.
