UM High School Journalism Day — Welcome

Alyssa Rabil, UM Journalism School

High School Day - 2015 Schedule2I hope you’re all having a nice winter break. Many of you have written asking for more info about High School Journalism Day 2016. This is a fairly relaxed event and the goal is to show budding journalists what life is like at the J-School. Students can attend classes, tour campus, meet our faculty and staff and gain valuable insight into a future as a college journalism student.

There is no cost to attend. Just bring yourself and your students. Unfortunately we cannot provide transportation, but do let us know if you plan to travel via bus so we can coordinate with campus parking to ensure you have a space. We’ve made several changes to the order of events, and 2016 classes may differ from those offered in 2015. (2015 schedule is to the right)

We’ve had great success with this in the past. We love to meet students passionate about writing, reporting, photography, broadcast, radio and other areas of journalism. As you know, this field is in a constant state of evolution and prospective journalists like your students are helping to define our future. We encourage students to share their ideas and expectations when they visit. We know what we need to teach them, but it is equally important to know what they are passionate about and what they want to learn.

We look forward to seeing you in April! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
